2009 Iowa and Nebraska Legislation Affects Insured Groups
The following actions that were passed by legislatures in Iowa and Nebraska during 2009 sessions apply to fully-insured coverage:
Iowa
- SF478 requires state-regulated insurance companies to reimburse for oral chemotherapy the same as for IV treatment rather than as a pharmacy benefit.
- HF311 requires insurance policies to cover prosthetic devices that are prescribed by a physician as medically necessary.
Nebraska
- LB551 allows families to purchase coverage for unmarried family members up through the age of 29 in their family coverage plans at their own cost. Health insurers that offer dependent-care coverage would be required to extend the terms for the children of policyholders to age 29.
- LB445 allows individuals and families who are not eligible for government-sponsored medical assistance to purchase uninsured access coverage policies that provide essential coverage.
