BMI Administers Federal Insurance Plan in Iowa

Benefit Management, Inc. (BMI) of Kansas has been awarded the Iowa contract for administration of the new Federal Pre-Existing Condition Insurance Plan.  BMI currently administers Iowa's state high-risk pool. 

As provided by the Patient Protection and Affordable Care Act, the Department of Health and Human Services has entered into contracts with states to operate temporary high-risk health insurance programs beginning in 2010 and ending on December 31, 2013.

The high-risk federal option is for people who have had difficulty obtaining coverage due to pre-existing conditions and who have been without coverage for at least six months.

Enrollment for the federal plan begins August 1, 2010.
