New Aetna Precert Requirements Effective July 1

Effective July 1, 2011, Aetna requires precertification for outpatient:

• Endoscopy: bronchoscopy, colonoscopy, upper gastrointestinal, cystoscopy, hysteroscopy;
• Arthroscopy: knee and shoulder; and  
• Laparoscopic cholecystectomy.

Follow your current process for contacting Aetna for precertification. Physicians who perform these scope procedures in an office setting (non- facility) are not required to call for precertification.
