Control over healthcare plan design and reliable cost/quality comparison data are tools employers want as part of their overall strategy to contain healthcare costs, according to human resources professionals and brokers who attended a recent employer forum in Omaha.
In addition to presenting information about the value of PPO networks to employee plans, Kelly Nieman, Midlands Choice marketing director, gave preliminary results of a Midlands Choice broker survey:
- Midlands Choice is “the choice” for self-funded groups because of its flexibility.
- In Nebraska, discounts and selection of doctors rated 4.6 on a 1-to-5 scale as important to employers’ decision-making process.
- Brokers do not believe discounts are the only factor driving costs. Claims management, utilization trends and reinsurance are also factors clients consider when selecting a payer.
Nieman also touched on the importance of interpreting network discount projections accurately for apples-to-apples comparisons when reviewing RFPs.
“We appreciated the opportunity to be part of this discussion between stakeholders,” Nieman said. “Opportunities to re-state the value of Midlands Choice, including the flexibility and alternatives that we can offer, are always welcome."
