As you may already be aware, the deadline for replacing the current ICD-9 code set with its updated and much expanded ICD-10 version is October 2013. While this deadline sounds distant, it impacts eligibility and all other aspects of coding, billing and reimbursement; compliance requires careful planning to avoid payment delays and claim denials that will result from not being ready for this massive change in our industry.
To assist providers in planning and implementation, the CMS website ICD-10 page includes numerous documents that address a variety of ICD-10 topics. The list of teleconferences, in addition to slides and transcripts of past sessions, is an important resource to review if you haven’t already.
