If you ask a resident how to pronounce the town's name, you'll hear a resounding accent on the second syllable, Bee-AT-ris.
At Beatrice Community Hospital and Health Center, if you ask Michelle Lawrence and Malinda Jobman, billing clerks, and Laurie Koch, billing supervisor, why their Midlands Choice claims rarely pend or reject, you'll receive equally adamant responses. The three long-time co-workers take turns answering the question, two nodding agreement while the other speaks:
- "Include the group name, group number and the payer name on the claim."
- "When you need to verify group and payer information, use the (Midlands Choice) website."
- "When a claim turns up on a report of aging claims, check its status on the website. If the claim shows there, don't re-submit it. Instead, print the claim form and face sheet and FAX them to the payer."
"It's a team effort," Laurie said, one for which she, Michelle and Malinda draw on their combined 75 years' experience to master. "We want those claim dollars to come back in as soon as possible."
